The Educational Project 4 "Producing Multicultural Communities: Methods, Design, and Praxes" is calling for participants for the course "Research Design and Practice in Global Japanese Studies" jointly held by the University of Duisbrug-Essen and the University of Tokyo. This course is being held in conjunction with the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies (course name in Japanese: 国際共同演習Ⅱ) and the IHS Program (course name in Japanese: 多文化共生・統合人間学演習Ⅳ). Course Information

This course is designed as an intensive cross-disciplinary doctoral workshop, covering research design in the emerging field of Transnational Information Studies and Global Japanese Studies. Research projects with a focus on contemporary Japanese and Asian societies are often faced with the challenge of how to track and analyze social processes as they go beyond national boundaries. With a focus on globalization in Japan and transnational processes in the East/South-East Asian region, while also open to other global regional foci, the course will include a series of lectures by leading scholars in Japan Studies and Global Studies. Students will present their research projects to this community of scholars and receive comments and guidance on how to develop transnational methodologies and modes of analysis.

2) An Abstract (1 page) or a full research proposal of your planned MA or PhD thesis
3) A short biographical note
4) Name of your official supervisor (if already decided)

2. The expected number of participants from University of Tokyo: around 6~8 post-graduate (MA or PhD) students.

3. Those who participate in this course will receive 2 credits either from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies (国際共同演習Ⅱ) or from the IHS Program (多文化共生・統合人間学演習Ⅳ).
