Call for Application: Joint Seminar on "Crossing Over National Boundaries: In Search of Innovative Approaches to Asian Studies" between NTU and UTokyo

The Educational Project 4 "Producing Multicultural Communities: Methods, Design, and Praxes" is pleased to invite applications for Joint Seminar on "Crossing Over National Boundaries: In Search of Innovative Approaches to Asian Studies," hosted by Global Asia Cluster, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, which will be held on 25th of June, 2016.

The purpose of this joint seminar is to share cutting-edge researches on changing Asia through innovative methodologies, datasets, or theoretical frameworks between (young) scholars of Nanyang Technological University and the University of Tokyo. 5 participants from both universities will sit together and present their own researches to have much deeper understanding of emerging new approaches to Asian studies.

For those who wish to join this joint seminar, upon reading the application requirements below, please send the email, titled "Application for Crossing Over National Boundaries: In Search of Innovative Approaches to Asian Studies" with attached application document to project4[at]ihs.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp by 15th of May midnight (24:00). Accepted presenters shall receive notification by email by 17th of May, 2016.

Detail of the Conference

  • Date for the Conference: 25th of June (Sat.), 2016
  • Location: Nanyang Technological University (Detailed program will be announced later)
  • Number of Applicants Accepted at The University of Tokyo: Three post-graduate students maximum.
  • Note: If the number of applicants exceeds the number of positions available, selection will be conducted based on the submitted application material.

Selection of Participants

(1) Participation Requirements:
As a student of the IHS Program, applicants must show a strong willingness to actively engage in the educational activities.
Regardless of whether the applicant is a doctoral student or master student, all participants must take part in the presentation section.
Upon completion of the activities, participants must submit a report.

(2) Application Document:
Provide the possible presentation title with key words of your presentation (up to 5 words) and individual presentation abstract
The document should be written in English.
One page, A4 size (No limit on the number of words or characters).

Additional Important Information:

Airfare, local transportation, and hotel accommodation will be covered by the budget of IHS program.
By taking part in this program, participants acknowledge that pictures, video, or audio recordings of the program activities may be taken for promotional purposes.
